About Us

Welbourne’s founder, Amanda Simmons Luby, brings racetrack, stud farm, and independent bloodstock consulting expertise to anyone seeking industry guidance.  Since starting her first racetrack job in 1989, she has developed a keen eye for a good horse and a sophisticated, but down-to-earth approach to the horse business.   Since beginning her consulting career with Werk Thoroughbred Consultants in 1996, Amanda has advised hundreds of clients on their bloodstock investments, including members of the Saudi Arabian royal family and Fortune 400 CEOs. When she was just 23, Amanda was hired as the Director of Communications for Walmac International Stud Farm during the time when it raced several champions and stood more than 20 stallions, a position she held for more than three years before attending law school. While at Walmac, Amanda prepared the pedigree analyses for the farm’s stallions and for countless clients.  In addition to her bloodstock work, Amanda also spent time at Kildangan Stud in Ireland breaking yearlings, grooming for Hall of Fame trainer, D. Wayne Lukas, and foaling out mares and training weanlings and yearlings at the Four Sixes Ranch in Texas.

Amanda devotes her considerable energy to both advising clients on their bloodstock portfolios, to which she provides exhaustive research capabilities, and developing the Welbourne breeding and racing program which is based in Florida.  Additionally, she writes articles on pedigree trends and industry issues.  An equestrienne in her own right, her clients have included multiple Eclipse Award-winning owners and breeders, stallion owners, and prominent South American racing/breeding operations. A passionate advocate for clean racing, Amanda is a national industry “Advisor” for Ownerview.com, a program jointly sponsored by the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders’ Association and Jockey Club, and a member of the Water Hay Oats Alliance.

A licensed attorney in Florida and Kentucky, Amanda earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Kentucky while on scholarship and a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science from Oklahoma State University (equine studies) where she was a member of Who’s Who in America’s Universities and Colleges.
